For some people, the orientation period in pesantren can be a beautiful start on the journey to study. However, this is not the case for Zufar Al-Faruq Jamalullail, a 10th grade high school student who had been a boarding school in one of the famous pesantren in the Cirebon region. Only one day he was there, but he had made a big decision: moved to another pesantren. The reason? Environmental cleanliness and comfort that is far from expectations.

When interviewed by the New Santri Receipt Committee (PSB) team Darul Ma’arif Islamic Boarding School Kaplongan Green CampusZufar told a serious tone, although occasionally he tried to smile hiding his disappointment.

“I just entered one day. But the room and toilet are really dirty. Many toilets are clogged, smelly, and not suitable for use. The dish washing is even united with balong whose water is cloudy. I am not strong enough to live in such an environment. How do you want to feel at home and learn calmly?,” Zufar said.

Zufar’s recognition was suddenly in the spotlight, especially among the santri guardians who are now increasingly selective in choosing a pesantren-based education place for their children. Not only a matter of curriculum and creed, aspects of comfort, sanitation, and the environment are also important things that cannot be ignored.

He wanted to become a petroleum engineering engineer, following in the footsteps of his father who now works as a technician at an oil drilling company in Iraq. For him, pesantren is not just a place to study religious knowledge, but also the main foundation of building character, discipline, and future dreams.

“My father works in the Iraqi oil field, and I want to be like him. But I also want to be strong in religious knowledge. I need a pesantren that is clean, orderly, and comfortable so I can learn seriously,” said Zufar with eyes that are sparkling full of enthusiasm.

Zufar himself admitted that he was very grateful to be able to move to a far more feasible place. He felt calmer and ready to undergo his new education.

“Now I can focus on studying at Darul Ma’arif. Comfortable rooms, clean environment, and the clerics are also friendly. This is the pesantren that I have been looking for from the first.”

Phenomena like this should open the eyes of many people that pesantren are not only a place to educate religious knowledge, but also the second home for children. Cleanliness, comfort, and feasibility of facilities are basic rights of students that should not be underestimated.

The story of Zufar is a reminder that children today are not just looking for a place to recite the Koran, but a place to grow properly and dignified. Character education and great ideals need to be supported by facilities that support and a healthy environment. And the green campus is present to answer all that.
